I have contacted the Office of Industrial Relations and made a request for them to consider adding this data to the Open Data Portal. They've advised that at present, it is only published to the website you've linked, but will look at other options for publication.
Hi Daniel, thanks for responding to my query. I see that the QLD Open Data Strategy says: https://www.oic.qld.gov.au/publications/policies/open-data-strategy
Quoting:
Data Governance and Standards
So users of our data can do so effectively, OIC will ensure the data it releases will:
- be made available in open formats such as CSV and XML
Can you please inform the OIR that by not providing the QLD Show Holiday Dates to the public in a machine readable open format as stated by the Data Governance and Standards from the Open Data Team they are, hindering or preventing the achievement of stated goals above:
- increase the openness and transparency of government and its processes
- be used and analysed by researchers or non-government organisations
- allow new products or services to be developed by users of the data
Additionally as stated Open Data is an important part of proactive disclosure of government-held information, and is consistent with Queensland public sector agencies' obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009.
By not providing machine readable open formats of this data, they would be skirting their obligations under the Right to Information Act 2009 as it can be assumed the data is not kept in the published HTML form but rather in some kind of source document, perhaps in tabular format such as a spreadsheet or database.
It is, that original format, or an equivalent open document format, which serves as an official government document of public interest for which of its release, there should be no concerns of privacy, public safety, security classification, commercial confidentiality or compliance with the law and does not represent an undue operational risk.
As such I would like to ask them to re-consider providing an up to date open dataset to complement the existing HTML web page in compliance with the stated goals of the QLD Open Data Strategy 2020 - 2024.
