I wish to be able to search for a VIN and retrieve a list of its Safety Certificates, specifically the Inspection Date and Odometer reading. Any PII information is not required at all.
This information would be invaluable in order to prevent odometer fraud which I was a victim of lately. The car I purchased had had its odometer rolled back 300,000 kilometres and it was provided with fake log books.
Currently there is no method for the Public to retrieve the mileage history of a vehicle in Queensland. Potentially this could be provided as a service to PPSR for Queensland registrations, as in NSW these odometer readings are already available.
Otherwise it could be made available to the numerous report sites online for a fee to extend the usefulness of their services, or via DMR as part of their registration number checking website.
The benefit would be to severely limit the incidence of odometer fraud, which I have been told is currently rampant in Queensland.
