Vegetation 2015 — Regional Ecosystems — Cover Codes

This dataset is available on Brisbane City Council’s open data website – data.brisbane.qld.gov.au. The site provides additional features for viewing and interacting with the data and for downloading the data in various formats.

Regional Ecosystems (Cover Codes) in the Brisbane City Council area.

Regional ecosystems (RE's) are vegetation communities in a bioregion that are consistently associated with a particular combination of geology, landform and soil (Sattler and Williams 1999, Vegetation Management Act 1999).

Vegetation Cover- Brisbane supports a range of different vegetation cover. These being Remnant and Non-remnant vegetation. Remnant vegetation is further split into regional ecosystems, whilst non-remnant is split into eight.

  • Canal - man-made.
  • Disturbed - predominantly thinned vegetation that no longer meets criteria for remnant vegetation on the basis of canopy cover.
  • Exotic - vegetation dominated by exotic species.
  • Native plantation e.g. Eucalyptus spp., mixed native cabinet timber species.
  • Plantation - predominantly pine plantation (Pinus spp.) and hoop/bunya pine.
  • Regrowth - vegetation that has been cleared and has regrown but still does not meet the criteria for remnant vegetation.
  • Rehabilitation area - actively managed e.g. 2 Million Trees area.
  • Water - anthropogenic water bodies.

This dataset was derived from the Queensland Herbarium dataset Regional Ecosystems 2015.
