Cairns - Trinity Bay Quaternary Sediments.
The Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) undertook a study of the Trinity Bay area following a request from the Beach Protection Authority for assistance with beach erosion investigations in the Mulgrave Shire (Beach Protection Authority, in press). Additionally, geological assistance had been sought by the Department of Harbours and Marine in an investigation of the Barron Delta (Department of Harbours & Marine, 1981). This Map is Plate 1 in the report (GSQ Publication No.386) presented to the parties, and discusses surface and subsurface sediment distribution both onshore and offshore as a basis for interpreting the geological history and predicting coastline evolution.
The main area of the investigation is shown on the Map (Plate 1) and includes Trinity Bay between Cape Grafton in the southeast and Buchan Point in the northwest, extending offshore to water depths of approximately 20 m, and the adjacent coastal strip between the Whitfield and Macalister Ranges and the present coastline.
The map product is available to all government agencies, industry and the public for reference.
