RubyJo 115 is a coal seam gas development well operated by QGC Pty Limited QGC, in Petroleum Lease PL 275 in the Surat Basin.
The aim of the well was to target, evaluate and produce coal seam gas from the Walloon Subgroup Coal Measures.
The well was drilled to 708.19mRT and encountered coals in the Walloon Subgroup.
Whilst rigging out wireline tools, a radioactive source, caesium 137, from the density tool was dropped down the well bore.
The wireline GR tool was used to locate the source at TD, 707.61mRT loggers depth, however numerous fishing attempts were unsuccessful in recovering it.
The well was cased with 7 inch production casing to 678.52mRT with the source remaining in the well bore below the shoe.
A Hi Vis Pill was set above the source from 687.00mRT to 700.00mRT. A cement plug was placed inside 7 inch casing from 75.00mRT to 27.35mRT.
The well was suspended pending authorisation from the government to plug and abandon the well.
One wireline run was performed post drilling.
Whilst rigging out the wireline tool, a radioactive source was dropped down the hole.
Numerous attempts to fish the source out were unsuccessful.
A Hi Vis Pill was set above the source and the well was cased and suspended.
