Exploration Permit for Coal was an 85 sub-block permit which formed part of the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) Ridgeland Coal Project, located northeast of Injune in Queensland. The Ridgeland Project area was defined by two other recently surrendered permits being EPC 1277 (Ridgeland Extended) and EPC 2777 (Ridgeland South). The Project field exploration activities were significantly hampered by the operators of the overlapping petroleum authority tenure holders that are active across the producing Fairview Gas Field. An internal BMA strategic review of the coal Project has resulted in a decision to surrender the exploration permits. This Final Report details the exploration work (drilling and seismic) carried out on the permit for Tenure Years 1 to 20 commencing from 16 March 2004 to the approved surrendered date on 4 May 2023. The Project targeted coal seams within the Permian Reids Dome Beds and the Bandanna Formation.
