QGC Pty Limited (QGC) was granted Petroleum Survey Licence (PSL) 2047 for two years effective from 29 April 2020. The purpose was to enable off-tenure ground investigations of a potential point-to-point gas pipeline, from Petroleum Lease (PL) 179 to tie into the field gathering system situated on PL 180, to allow production to continue in the event of a Field Compressor Station shutdown. A pipeline route successfully identified in this PSL area would provide the locational basis for a future application for a pipeline licence under the Petroleum and Gas (Production and Safety) Act 2004.
The area of PSL 2047 covers only part of PL 226 held solely by Australia Pacific LNG Pty Limited, which is located between PL 179 and PL 180, as shown on Figure 1. PL 179 and PL 180 are held by QGC and others under the ATP620 Joint Venture. Figure 2 provides the topographic and geographic setting for PSL 2047.
PSL 2047 covers one sub-block of approximately 3km², BIM Block Sub-block BRIS 2453 Z
The survey and ground truthing for an off-tenure pipeline route was successfully completed and found to support the application for a pipeline licence. Pipeline Licence (PPL) 2063 was applied for and granted on 10 June 2021.
As a result of the grant of PPL 2063, PSL 2047 became redundant, therefore, QGC made application for the surrender of PSL 2047 on 19 July 2021, which was approved and effective from 18 August 2021. QGC also made application for full surrender of PSL 2047’s environmental authority EA00022556, received by the administering authority on 19 July 2021 and approved on 5 August 2021.
