Exploration Permit Minerals (EPM) 26740 was granted to Newcrest Operations Limited (Newcrest) on 1 August 2018 for a term of five (5) years. EPM26740 forms part of the companys Bulimba Project, which consists of six (6) granted Exploration Permit Minerals; EPM26530, EPM26531, EPM26532, EPM26533, EPM26738 and EPM26740, located approximately 50km northwest of Chillagoe and 200km west of Cairns in northeast Queensland. The exploration permit is located within the Walsh (7664) 1 to 100,000 and Walsh (SE5404) 1 to 250,000 map sheets. The Bulimba Project is considered highly prospective for gold (Au) and copper (Cu) resources. The Bulimba Project tenure is positioned within a fertile structural corridor which hosts major gold-copper deposits such as the Red Dome and Mungana deposits and is therefore considered highly prospective for gold (Au) and copper (Cu) resources. The cover that exists over most of the project area has prevented effective previous exploration, providing an excellent opportunity for Newcrest to open up a new, province-scale area to systematic exploration. Exploration activity across Newcrests Queensland exploration tenure was significantly disrupted in 2021; due to Government covid policies; and consequent restrictions placed upon the travel, movement, and associations of employees, landholders, traditional owners and business partners. These imposed conditions severely affected the ability to effectively implement the proposed work programmes over the recent past, and also during this current field season.
This report is prepared by Chillex and documents work carried out by Chillex on EPM26740 during the reporting period 2 August 2021 to 1 August 2022. Exploration activities completed included:
Further database interrogation and desktop research.
On site reconnaissance and minor field work (when permissible).
Collation of geophysical studies, data entry, programme revision.
